The Infomercial Advertising
Formula
There's often overlap between the following elements, but
almost all infomercials follow a formula.
Example: Swivel Sweeper
There's also frequent repetition because few people see the
program from beginning to end.
1. Exaggerate the problem.
2. Reveal/demonstrate a solution (often
showing "before and after").
3. Talk up the benefits/slam the
competition.
4. Offer "proof of performance" through testimonials (often with a
celebrity).
5. Offer a guarantee (this is called "risk reversal").
6. "But wait!!!!!" Pile on free bonuses (something for
nothing).
7. Create a sense of urgency to buy by
saying it's a "limited time offer." Creates a fear of
loss.
8. Summary of benefits/call to
action.
Internet Infomercials
Many "netpreneurs" are now starting to produce their own
informercials and placing them on their website or on
YouTube.
